Finance Coordinator

Pioneer Academies is looking for a superstar Finance Junior Associate to support our financial processes and systems across our schools in Johannesburg. We are looking for a meticulous and self-driven individual to be a part of our finance team. This is an opportunity to create a transformative brand with the future of Africa’s youth at stake.

Two years ago we launched a new venture to build the first pan-African network of high-quality, affordable primary and secondary schools. This year we will be operating five schools— three in South Africa and two in Kenya—and gearing up for rapid growth. Our venture is structured as a social enterprise to enable us to attract the investment that will be needed to launch 100 schools and reach tens of thousands of students in the next decade.

Our team culture is designed to reinforce our vision:

  • We model the growth mindset we want our students to embody: you are challenged every day and, as a result, you grow more than at any other point in your life
  • We pursue excellence in every detail and do whatever it takes to produce great work quickly
  • We are radically open: we share tough messages and our own vulnerabilities because doing so helps us grow
  • We put our students before our team, and our team before ourselves
  • We bring infectious energy, enthusiasm and fun to everything we do because joy fuels the hardest work and learning

The Finance Junior Associate will support aspects of financial management processes and systems at Pioneer Academies. The Associate will have exposure to key finance operations across the network of schools. He/She will report to the Director of Finance at Pioneer Academies.

  • Manage daily reconciliation of bank transactions
  • Oversee frequent loading of payments to creditors to ensure smooth financial operations across multiple campuses
  • Manage allocation of fee payments received from parents across campuses
  • Coordinate with accountants to ensure monthly management accounts and reports are compiled on time
  • Capture and document employee data that affects attendance, payroll, and compensation, partnering with HR in ensuring payroll is completed in a timely manner each month
  • Support the Director of Finance as needed
  • Other duties and responsibilities at the behest of the direct manager

  • You have 2-3 years working in a finance department
  • You have a relevant higher education qualification
  • You enjoy working with people and finding innovative solutions
  • You pay attention to details and work with high accuracy
  • You are highly reliable and take ownership of your work
  • You are able to work in basic systems (e.g. online business banking account, etc.)
  • You have excellent excel skills (including Google Sheets)

Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Only successful candidates will be contacted.
